Three Styles

So I considered this a fun assignment. It definitely helped me experiment with styles I would have never thought about using. The person that I had to draw was a colonial farmer. He had to be a young boy so trying to come up with a concept for that was fun. Down below is the end result.
In order, the one on the left is my original style. The one in the middle is Bravest Warrior designed. The one on the far right is Atlantis: The Lost Empire designed. The Bravest Warrior style was the most fun I had out of the three mainly because of how loose the character was. I didn't really like the Atlantis designed one. No matter how many ways I drew him, he looked like a teenager instead of a young boy. Regardless, I had tons of fun working on this.

Style References

So here are my styles that I'm choosing for this project. I have a few more styles I wanted to experiment with, but these are the main ones I like so far.
The styles in no particular order are Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, PuppyCat, Treasure Planet, Bravest Warriors, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Each one of them have a specific design about them that I like.

Styles Test.

So for our next assignment, I've been working on three various styles. Those styles including PuppyCat, Treasure Planet, and Gravity Falls. I'll post a reference collage shortly. But I watched the styles in motion so that I could get a full grasp of how it's done. My favorite out of the styles thus far is Treasure Planet. Down below is a scene test from that film I was studying.

WIP of Staredown.

Thought it was cool. So I'm posting the WIP of Staredown. As you can tell, I outline everything in blue first, then redo the lines in black.

STAREDOWN

So this is both Kala and Ikaika together. From the description I posted before. Final drawing.

Silhouettes and Character Designs

So the last time I tried uploading, it corrupted on me so I'm trying it again. These are the silhouettes featured below are the characters I'm using in my story. The boy's name is Kala and the Wolf's name is Ikaika.
Kala is selfish, cowardly, and only concerns his self. Ikaika is loyal, diligent, and courageous. Kala has been in trouble with the authorities and they send him to Ikaika. He tries to teach the valves his sensei taught him to Kala so that it could possibly make him a better person. In time, Kala starts to appreciate the love and patience that Ikaika has given him. At the end of their journey, Kala considers him to be a father figure.

File Corruption

My files I were uploading corrupted. Hmm. Let me try that again.

Ikaika (Zodiac Animal)

So for my Zodiac project we had to design a character and give him a place of origin. My animal was dog so I went with a wolf (since they're in the same family) Also, his place of origin in Hawaii. I was doing plenty of research of Hawaiian culture and history. The name I chose for this character is Ikaika, meaning "Strong" in Hawaii's native language. I went through many other designs, but I ended up choosing this one only because of how much I wanted to portray Hawaii's culture. The male dancers of Hawaii was the strongest influence for this character. I watched many videos on the Merrie Monarch Festival and I saw different styles in dances, different looks, and different praises with highly intrigued me.
I used my forest/grassy reference for the background. I wanted to play with the shapes and make it pop. I think I captured that, but not entirely. I detailed the outfit so that it can also pop. I still have to design another character (human). Silhouettes of Ikaika and the human will soon be posted as well as a synopsis of both characters. Ikaika's design was also based off of the dog in the Chinese zodiac. He's Loyal, Smart, Diligent, and Courageous. Most pictures that I've seen of people of Polynesian decent are quite stocky/built, so I incorporated that in the final design.

Body Reference

So the character I'm gonna design for this project is a McKenzie Valley Wolf. His name is gonna be Ikaika. Hawaiian for Strong. For that name I needed to see what "strong" looks like. According to the chinese zodiac, the dog (wolf for this matter) is Loyal, sociable, courageous, diligent, steady, lively, adaptable, and smart. Below is another reference sheet.

Zodiac Reference Studies

So our next assignment is to come up with a story and two characters (one human and one animal). Kinda have them mesh together and such, which doesn't sound too hard. I have an environment and a tribal study posted below.

Shape Sketches

So I made some shapes in photoshop and had to make characters with them. I really like drawing fat people >__> Anyway I experimented with a few styles in here. I might do more.

Expressions References

So the sketches I've been working on for the past few days is only expressions based. Here's my reference sheet with the expressions I'm currently studying. Reference sheets are fun :D

Busy Day

So I've been really busy today. Starting from 10 this morning. I helped a fellow student by contributing myself a duct tape cast of my body. The duct tape made it a little difficult to move around, but the end result was really cool.
Afterwards, I've been pretty much drawing all day. Took a brief pause to obtain food. Then started back up again. I finished my self portrait for class an hour ago which I'm really proud of. It didn't come out exactly the way I wanted it, but nonetheless it looks cool. I kept revising it because of the anatomy. Still think that the anatomy is kinda off, but it's not really noticeable.
I have a few concepts that I'm gonna sketch up when I get home, but I think I made some good progress today.

Gearing Up/Back In Action

Alright, here we go... So the semester is over which makes me a junior now. I have a bunch of free time now so I can finally work on some sketches, comics, and commissions I planned on working with.
